It's not far from Bangkok,a lot of tourists Thai and foreigner like to go there on holiday or weekend.In 1981, the Royal Forest Department declared the archipelago of Samet, along with nine other small islands, the headland of Khao Laem Ya, and the 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) Mae Ramphueng Beach to be a National Park, and is thus Ko Samet is under the protection of the National Parks Division of the Thai Government. Ko Samet is 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) south of mainland Rayong province and is surrounded by the Gulf of Thailand.

Samet is one of the Eastern Seaboard Islands of Thailand. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand off the coastline of the Thai province of Rayong, approximately 220 kilometres southeast of Bangkok.

Getting there
Distance from Bangkok: 200 km
Total travel time: 4 hours
From Bangkok, take a bus from the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai Station) directly to Ban Phe in Rayong. Buses leave hourly from around 5:00–20:00, and are three to three-and-a-half hours long (157 baht, including air-con, water and a snack). You can also take a two-and-a-half hour bus from Ekkamai to Rayong leaving from 4:00–22:00 (140 baht), and from there take a short songthaew (around 30 baht) or motorcycle to Ban Phe.

The ferry boat journey costs Approx 100 Baht per person and takes 40 mins to reach koh samed, which is 7 kms from the mainland. Different ferry boats depart from Ban Phe to Different parts of Koh Samed, please check at the ticket office which boat to get on. "see below timetable & pier information" ONLY BUY FERRY TICKETS AT THE HARBOUR OFFICES OR ON BOARD THE BOAT NOT AT ANY TRAVEL AGENCY OFFICE The Most popular boat departs from Ban Phe - Tarua Phe Pier to Koh Samed (Nadan Pier) On arrival at the Koh Samed Pier (Nadan Pier) There are lots of TRUCK TAXIS waiting to take you to your resort for a small fee of 50 - 200 Baht depending on distance & Resort area. The truck will stop at the park office, so each person can pay the "ONCE ONLY" park entrance fee If the taxi does not stop at the park office, The park entrance fee is payable at your hotel. The Nearest resort to Nadan pier is Sai-Kaew beach which is Approx 1km down the main street.
